Wholesale, online and store sales soar
Sales at Thorntons rocketed 26.2 per cent to£26.5 million in the fourth quarter, signalling a recovery after a poor first half.

Like-for-like sales climbed 7.2 per cent during the period. The confectionery retailer attributed the recent growth in part to improved product ranges activity. The performance helped Thorntons achieve a full-year sales increase of 1.7 per cent.

Sales at Thorntons' online and mail order arm, Thorntons Direct, also shot up 60.2 per cent after investments made earlier in the year.

Thorntons chief executive Mike Davies said: 'We have continued to make good progress in all channels following the difficult start to the year, which has underlined the progress made in the delivery of our sales and marketing led strategy.'

Sales at the retailer's wholesale division soared 53.5 per cent in the final quarter to£5.2 million after expansion of its business with other retailers. Full-year growth jumped 18.5 per cent.
