Homewares and furniture chain The Range almost doubled its pre tax profits from £10.2m to £20.3m in the year to January 31.

Turnover increased 21% to £211.7m as The Range opened more stores.

In documents filed at Companies House, the retailer, owned by entrepreneur Chris Dawson, said it is aiming to develop in to a national chain.

The retailer said: “Sales grew despite the current economic conditions in the high street, and this was primarily driven by the increase in retail outlets.

“The group is optimistic about the future given the continued growth and the strength of the concept.”

The retailer expects to have 50 stores open by the end of the year.
