Massive Midlands scheme approved
Specialist retail park manager The Junction has been granted planning permission for its proposed£100 million regeneration of Oldbury town centre at Sandwell in the West Midlands. The mixed-use regeneration of a 32 acre (13 ha) site on the edge of Oldbury town centre will include 323,000 sq ft (30,005 sq m) of non-food floorspace.

The focal point for the scheme will be a sports-based leisure attraction, with a health and fitness centre, Soccerdome and ice rink. JJB Sports has already agreed to take space at the leisure element. The Junction's development director John Gatley said: 'We have substantial interest from occupiers, which we hope to convert into leases in the near future.'

According to Drivers Jonas, planning consultant to The Junction, the Secretary of State took economic and social regeneration benefits into account when deciding to approve a development of this scale.
