Tesco has paid out £3m to two departing directors while chief executive Philip Clarke missed out on his bonus after a fall in profits last year.

Tim Mason, who was the boss of failed US arm Fresh & Easy, collected £1.6m in “liquidated damages”. He left the business in December when the grocer revealed plans to exit the country.

Former UK chief Richard Brasher, who exited last year, received a £1.3m pay-off.

Meanwhile, Clarke missed out on an annual bonus for the second consecutive year. He took home his £1.1m salary, plus shares, according to Tesco’s annual report.

The rest of the executive team also missed out on a bonus or share award after profits slumped 51% to £1.96bn last year.

Tesco’s 280,000 staff have seen their payout fall from £56m to £110m a year ago.
