An IT glitch in Tesco’s systems has caused NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) customers to have their credit cards locked.

Customers had problems attempting to pay for fuel at Tesco’s petrol stations yesterday and the retailer has subsequently apologised.

Shoppers were frustrated when using Tesco’s pay-at-pump feature because their PINs were not accepted, The Telegraph reported.

Tesco said: “We are investigating reports of problems affecting some of our pay-at-pump services. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The issue, which has not affected payment for fuel at the stations’ counters, is the latest in a series of problems affecting NatWest and RBS customers’ ability to spend.

The banks’ cards were affected on Cyber Monday (December 3) when customers were unable to use them on the busiest online shopping day of the year.
