Tesco has undercut rival Asda today with the launch of its Tesco Value school uniform for £3.50.

Tesco’s price beats Asda’s school uniform for£4, which it launched last Friday. It is also cheaper than Marks & Spencer, which launched its school uniform from£6.50.

The Tesco Value school uniform includes polo shirt, skirt or trousers and a jumper or cardigan.

Tesco clothing chief executive Terry Green said: “Every year we work hard to offer our customers the combination of great prices and great quality over the widest range. This year we’ve worked even harder as we know parents’ wallets are stretched more than ever. Our£3.50 uniform is just one part of the offer.”

Tesco is also offering multipack deals, which aim to kit out children from head to toe for less than£10. These items include shirts, skirts, socks and trousers.

Green added: “Our customers tell us that they expect us to give them a wide range of offers that meets all their needs and our three pack of pique polo shirts deal is yet another good example of how we respond. We know that many parents stock up on extra polo shirts to see their kids through the school year as we sell 2.7 million of them in the Back to School period alone.”
