Winner will be blessed with a supply contract
Tesco is offering hopeful cheesemakers the chance to join its supplier list in a competition slated for the end of the month. The Tesco Cheese Challenge, now in its third year, is open to cheese producers of any size, with the prize - a contract to supply the UK's biggest grocery chain - potentially worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Last year's winner, Cornish Blue - from a three-man operation in Liskeard, Cornwall - has doubled sales since it debuted in 400 Tesco stores last November, according to Cornish Cheese Company proprietor Philip Stansfield (pictured).

Tesco cheese buyer Alain Guilpan said: 'We are committed helping small British producers grow their business.'

This year, the retailer expects entries from more than 60 competitors. Any cheese that is not already sold through a retail chain of more than 20 stores is eligible to enter. More information is available on the Cheese Challenge hotline on 08456 447 660. The closing date for entries is May 25.
