Tesco is this week rolling out its schoolwear embroidery service nationwide following a trial earlier this year.
The service claims to offer a cheaper alternative to specialist suppliers. Tesco sweatshirts embroidered with a school’s emblem are priced from £7 and a twin pack of polo shirts from £10. It claims this is 40% less than the current market rate.
In the trial, 1,000 garments were embroidered for children at 70 schools. Kids at schools in Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield and Hertfordshire will wear the stock from September.
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco director said: “With household budgets remaining tight, we want to offer top quality school uniform for everyone. By providing embroidery for polo-shirts and sweatshirts at an affordable price, we’re helping families sometimes caught in an expensive trap. With the success of the trial we are also hoping to extend this service into school sportswear in due course.”
Tesco is offering parents the chance to nominate their school for the embroidery service on its clothing site, Tesco.com/clothing as it rolls out nationwide.
