Tesco ordered to solve disused factory problem

Tesco is to be forced to sort out a dangerous disused factory it purchased two years ago to build a 5,800 sq m store.

Manchester City Council has given the supermarket chain three weeks to remove a building at the Renold Chain factory at Burnage, Greater Manchester which Tesco bought by gazumping rival Asda with an£8 million bid.

Local councillors have accused the store of sitting on the site in order to wait for its value to increase.

Tesco has had several planning applications rejected for the site, but another is being assessed by the council.
