Tesco has developed a virtual changing room app for Facebook so customers can ‘try on’ their purchases on an avatar.
Facebook users can upload a photo of their face, which is then combined with height, weight and measurement data to create an avatar with a similar build and shape.
Once an avatar is created, users can try on clothing from the F&F clothing range to see what they might look like wearing them. Tesco then suggests, based on the chosen measurements, which size would be most appropriate.
Tesco is running competitions based around the app. Users are invited to submit their ‘look’ for a chance to win a £50 voucher each day. This will increase engagement levels with Facebook fans and give the app more exposure on social media.
Although nothing will be able to replace the experience of trying on clothes in person, creating an avatar goes some way to replicating it and will certainly increase sales and reduce the number of returns.
