IT hitches delayed the launch by a week
Tesco's much-trumpeted online foray into non-food retail has finally gone live almost a week after IT hitches held up the launch of Tesco Direct.

The retailer was due to launch its site, selling 8,000 non-food lines spanning furniture, electricals and homewares, last Wednesday, but 'minor IT problems affecting the level of service on the web site' caused the supermarket giant to delay its£35 million debut.

At the time, a Tesco spokeswoman said: 'We want to offer customers the best possible service, therefore we have made the decision to delay the launch.'

Although the site still displays the banner Coming Soon, a spokeswoman confirmed it is live and accessible to shoppers.
