Tesco is to merge its two voucher schemes to create one bumper offer, following feedback from participating schools and clubs.

The UK’s largest grocer will merge its Computers for Schools and Sport for Schools and Clubs into one catalogue, to launch in spring next year.

The move follows requests for a more diverse range of equipment brought together under one scheme. Vouchers will be offered in stores for an extended period of 15 weeks to allow schools and clubs longer to save up for big-ticket items. All equipment will be delivered during the autumn term.

Tesco corporate and legal affairs director Lucy Neville-Rolfe said: “Over the past 17 years, millions of children up and down the country have collected Tesco vouchers for schools.

“We wanted to build on this success by extending our support into other areas of the curriculum, such as health and art. Our enhanced voucher collection scheme will make it easier for schools and clubs to benefit from our programme and we expect it will prove to be our most popular yet.”

Computers for Schools launched in 1992 and the supermarket gave 13,000 items to UK schools that year. Sport for Schools and Clubs followed in 2005. By the end of this year, Tesco will have given away more than 3 million computing and sports equipment items, valued at more than£150 million.
