Sales at quirky fashion retailer Ted Baker have surged after shoppers lapped up its latest ranges.

The store group reported total group sales up 14.3 per cent in the 13 weeks to November 10 and retail sales climbed 13.4 per cent.

Chief executive Ray Kelvin said: “We have received a very positive response from customers to our autumn/winter collections. Trading has been in line with expectations.”

He said he was confident of “another successful outcome for the year”, but warned that would be dependent on Christmas trading.

Ted Baker’s wholesale revenues rose 16.3 per cent in the period. The retailer has also struck an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse for the mobiles group to sell Ted Baker-branded phones.

Numis analyst Ramona Tipnis was pleased by Ted Baker’s retail performance. She said: “This is particularly encouraging given that this acceleration occurred over October and November, which other retailers have been hailing as extremely difficult to justify a decline in sales.”
