Restaurant chain Harvester has become one of the first UK brands to sign up to Passbook, Apple’s new feature that allows iPhone users to keep coupons, tickets and boarding passes in one place.

The mobile couponing service Harvester has launched doesn’t necessarily provide anything restaurant chains such as Pizza Express haven’t been doing for a while with their own mobile apps, but the move is significant as Apple makes its first steps towards providing a mobile payments service.

The service allows consumers to store vouchers from Harvester in Passbook on their iPhones. Once Apple throws its weight behind mobile payments, it’s likely to take off quickly – retailers will be watching the development of Passbook carefully.

Harvester marketing manager Helen Worrall said: “The benefit having one central point to digitally distribute and redeem vouchers in real-time means we have more control and visibility over our marketing campaign performance.”
