Marks & Spencer will roll out a fraud detection system across all its stores before the end of the year.
The retailer has signed a deal with Sysrepublic to introduce its Secure data-mining system, following a trial proving the retailer would be able to identify enough fraudulent activity at its tills to generate a return on investment.
The project is in addition to the extensive store system replacement programme M&S has been engaged in for the past two years.
Marks & Spencer director of IT and logistics Darrell Stein said: “We selected the system to automatically analyse POS data to detect fraud patterns.”
Stein added that M&S and Sysrepublic ran a two-week trial in 120 stores before deciding to extend the implementation. The system is also used by HMV.
