Harvey Nichols will upgrade ageing till systems at its flagship Knightsbridge store in a deal with DigiPos Systems worth £230,000.

Harvey Nichols head of IT Martin Schofield said the upgrade of the 142 tills, alongside printers, barcode scanners and Chip & PIN readers, is planned for February.

‘We could do it in November, but we’re reluctant to interfere with Christmas,’ said Schofield. He said the upgrade will take place in a couple of overnight sessions.

The present Compaq equipment has been in use for about seven years.

Other Harvey Nichols stores have fairly new kit and did not need upgrading.

The chain will begin a roll-out of Merret merchandise and retail systems from Northampton-based Grantfort Computer Systems in April, following successful pilots.
