Clothing retailer Fat Face said its new electronic point of sale (epos) system helped it cope with double-digit sales growth over peak period.
The BT Expedite system was installed in time for Christmas 2012 and the retailer said it would not have been able to cope with the growth it experienced over the peak period without it.
Fat Face business change and IT director Leon Shepherd said the multichannel till system has improved sales and conversion rates in-store because it connects to the internet, allowing staff to order products for shoppers that are out of stock.
Shepherd said: “There has been a huge conversion uplift.” He added that it is a lot easier for staff to cross-sell and have a more natural conversation with customers about which products to buy, because the system is intuitive and easy to use.
He said the company is looking at how to extend the system further, and is considering the potential of a mobile point-of-sale system and the use of tablets in store.
The system has been rolled out to 420 tills at 206 UK stores.
The cloud-based system is also easy to roll out in international markets, which Shepherd says is a priority for the retailer. “We are making no secret of our international ambitions and we are talking about how we can role it our internationally.”
BT Expedite chief executive Josh Pert added: “On-demand multichannel POS is the future as it reduces the delivery time and costs for retailers and offers an affordable platform for growth businesses.”
