Jewellery retailer Beaverbrooks is to pilot the EPoS system it has developed in-house before the end of this month.
Last year Retail Week revealed the retailer’s plans to replace its EPoS system, as it wanted to deploy mobile point-of-sale devices that would suit the consultative sales approach its staff take with customers.
Beaverbrooks is now at the point of testing the replacement system, with a view to rolling it out to all stores in time for the peak Christmas trading period.
Beaverbrooks head of management information systems Patrick Walker said tha t he hopes to have a number of stores up and running with the new system before the end of the summer.
The system will replace the retailer’s legacy EPoS application, with the development of the new application taking place partly to help Beaverbrooks achieve compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
However, Walker said that the investment would have been made even if it had not needed to work towards becoming compliant with PCIDSS, because of the improvement in service that will be made possible in stores.
