Amazon has suspended plans to stop accepting UK Visa credit card payments as the etailer and payments giant attempt to resolve their dispute over fees.
Amazon said last November that it would stop accepting Visa UK credit card payments from later this week.
However, the online Goliath revealed on Monday (January 17) that the block will not go ahead for the time being.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19.
“We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk.”
Argument between high fees and limiting customer choice
Amazon’s original decision was driven by “the high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions”, it said at the time.
However Visa argued that Amazon was trying to limit consumer choice.
It was not clear how close the two sides now are to an agreement. Amazon left the door open to taking action in future, but said in an email to customers: “Should we make any changes related to Visa credit cards, we will give you advance notice.”
Visa said: “Amazon customers can continue to use Visa cards on Amazon.co.uk after 19 January while we work closely together to reach an agreement.”
