Chartered Land has moved a step closer to obtaining planning permission for a o1bn (£894.6m) extension of its Swords Pavilions scheme north of Dublin.

The developer has received notification of intention to grant planning permission for the works by Fingal County Council. It marks one of the final hurdles to full planning permission, which the developer can now expect in the coming months.

If final approval is given, the redevelopment will add more than 100 small and large retail units, and two additional department stores.

Swords Pavilions, which at present attracts about 200,000 visitors a week, was bought by Chartered Land in 2006.

H&M, Tommy Hilfiger and Carphone Warehouse are among retailers to have opened at the centre this week and Mango has taken a 2,790 sq ft (260 sq m) unit in the scheme.

Chartered Land chief executive Dominic Deeny said: “Swords Pavilions has the potentialto become a major regional centre at the heart of the Fingal region.”
