British consumers will soon face higher costs on drinks, with the promise of earning money back on returning their plastic bottles and alumninium drinks cans. The mooted deposit return scheme is due to come into force in October 2027.
The rollout of a DRS has been a long time coming. The Conservative government first announced a scheme in 2018, covering plastic bottles, aluminium cans and glass. Glass will controversially no longer be incluced in the DRS, after the government decided it would cause too much cost and complexity.
