Superdrug will launch its biggest ever January Sale next month, offering swingeing price cuts of up to 90 per cent.

The health and beauty giant has slashed the price of about£40 million of stock and some products will be reduced to just 10p.

Starting on Boxing Day, Superdrug’s post-Christmas bonanza will include more than 24,000 product lines and span all 914 stores, with 300 being pinpointed as hot spots to carry more space for Sale products.

Products will also be available online as the Sale will go live on Superdrug’s web site on Christmas Eve, along with a list of the 300 key stores.

Superdrug trading director Jeff Wemyss said the Sale will include a range of products including winter health and vitamins, everyday toiletries such as shampoo and toothpastes as well as branded nappies for less than a pound.

The Sale mirrors the discount frenzy that has hit the high street in the run-up to Christmas, although most health and beauty retailers have remained resilient and not gone into full Sale mode like some other retailers.

Superdrug and Boots have both offered their usual in-store special offers, including three-for-twos on gifts. Boots will also launch its January Sale on Boxing Day, offering 50 per cent off its Christmas gifts range.

The Superdrug Sale includes premium skincare and cosmetics from Lancôme and Clarins for£2.99, hairdryers and styling electricals from£1.99 and vitamins, sunglasses and standard skincare from 10p.

Wemyss explained that the Sale was designed to attract consumers whose minds are on living on a budget in the present downturn.

Some of the price cuts include Clinique Seven Day Scrub from£12.99 to£2.99 and a Philips Satinelle Epilator from£39.99 to£4.99.
