Lidl and Aldi could be UK winners
Sales at discount food retailers are set to soar by as much as 86 per cent to reach£5.6 billion over the next five years, according to a report by retail consultancy Allegra Strategies.

The report forecasts that supermarket groups such as German chain Lidl and Aldi will increase their UK market share to 10 per cent within ten years.

Aldi and Lidl operate 700 stores in the UK. According to Allegra, this could rise to about 1,100 outlets by 2010.
