Intu’s proposed redevelopment of the Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham has been given the go-ahead by council leaders.
Nottingham City Council has approved the plans, which include the creation of a new route from the shopping mall into the city centre.
Intu bosses said the scheme will provide “improved choice for customers to shop, eat, relax and socialise”. It will also open a multi-screen cinema to give customers reasons to “visit more often and stay for longer”.
The work is part of a £150m investment by shopping centre landlord Intu and the city council in the Broadmarsh area, which will also include a car park and bus station refurbishment.
Intu’s investment forms part of £1.3bn it is ploughing into redeveloping its shopping centres across the UK over the next 10 years.
Intu regional director Martin Breeden said: “We’re delighted that our plans for Intu Broadmarsh have received approval. Along with our work at Intu Victoria Centre, we now have a great opportunity to create something special for Nottingham. We look forward to working together with the council to move the project forward.”
