PM vows crack down on betting and vape shops to save ‘hollowed out high streets’
The prime minister has vowed to change the laws around 24-hour betting shops and planning permission for vape shops as part of the government’s plans to save “hollowed out high streets”.
Under new powers due to be announced by prime minister Andy Burnham tomorrow (August 11), police and local authorities will be given “tougher powers… to crack down on rogue operators” and communities will be put “back in control of their high streets by giving local people a real say over what businesses can open in their town centres”.
