John Lewis opened its 28th branch last week in Cardiff and reported that sales soared 20% ahead of target on opening day.

The 170,000 sq ft, four-floor store, which houses a revamped premium womenswear shopfit, is the department store chain’s largest outside of London.

The retailer invested £35m in the store and created 780 jobs. It is the principal anchor for the St David’s development in the city, which will open in a month’s time.
