Value fashion powerhouse Primark opens its doors in Boston tomorrow, the first step in an ambitious expansion push in the US.

The 77,000 sq ft Boston store is in landmark premises formerly occupied by the famous Filene’s department store in Downtown Crossing and features men’s, women’s and children’s clothes as well as a home offer.

The store features innovations such as ‘chill-out’ areas and smartphone charging stations designed to set it apart from competitors and help Primark make a splash upon debut.

It also has 73 cash registers, 84 fitting rooms and 530 mannequins and busts, plus a a 1,000 sqft “trend room” at the entrance showcasing latest designs. Around 590 permanent jobs are being created with the store opening.

Primark chief executive Paul Marchant said: “We have chosen the ideal location for our Northeastern US home in the city of Boston. We are delighted to become part of the community and formally introduce shoppers to the Primark brand.”

Within about a year Primark expects to be trading seven US stores over 400,000 sq ft, including one in the King of Prussia mall in Philadelphia.

The other upcoming planned stores include standalone mall locations in Burlington Mall (Burlington, Massachusetts), Danbury Fair (Danbury, Connecticut), Freehold Raceway Mall (Freehold, New Jersey), South Shore Plaza (Braintree, Massachusetts), Staten Island Mall (Staten Island, New York) and Willow Grove Mall (Willow Grove, Pennsylvania).
