Retail Week takes a tour around Kiddicare’s giant Peterborough showroom and demonstrates its kiosk technology.

The acquisition of Kiddicare by Morrisons has taken many in the industry by surprise. And so having visited before several years ago, Retail Week decided that it was time to take a trip up to the retailer’s Peterborough superstore and distribution centre to get some fresh pictures and video of the impressive site.

We were shown round by Kiddicare chief technology officer Simon Harrow, who talked through some of the technology in use at the site, as well as the core ecommerce systems.

Kiddicare has been innovative in its approach to retail, and particularly, how it works with the big name nursery brands it stocks. After installing branded kiosks in its superstore, it quickly reported that 50% of customers were making use of them, both to browse the retailer’s website and to order products for collection in-store. Now Harrow says that 70% of customers use the 30 kiosks.

Morrisons is now considering similar, installing kiosks in its stores to offer a click-and-collect service.

Simon Harrow gives us a closer look at the technology in the video.
