Upmarket department store Fortnum & Mason is to open its first international store in the world’s tallest skyscraper in Dubai.

Fortnum & Mason’s first overseas store in its 306-year history will open in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in late February, 2014.

The store will feature the retailer’s famous hampers and a tea rooms over three floors. Fortnum is working with local operator Al Khayyat Investments on the venture.

The department store supplies numerous overseas stockists but the shop will represent its first standalone opening abroad.

Fortnum & Mason chief executive Ewan Venters said: “We feel the mix of Fortnum’s traditions and the vibrancy of Dubai will be powerful.”

Venters is aiming to broaden Fortnum’s reach through attracting more shoppers who aren’t tourists to its flagship Piccadilly store in London and last month opened a new store in King’s Cross St Pancras railway station.
