A new charity shop concept created in partnership with Mary Portas and Conran & Partners for Save the Children will be rolled out nationwide.

The first store, which was featured on BBC2 last night as part of Portas’ new series ‘Mary Queen of Charity Shops’, was opened in January in Orpington has seen record sales figures since the new design by Sir Terrance Conran’s design consultancy.

The next store to be designed by Conran & Partners will be a new store in Edinburgh and up to 10 more stores will be selected for refurbishment in the next twelve months. All Save the Children shops will get new design if the initial roll out proves successful.

Conran & Partners director Jane Lawrence said: “It has been a pleasure to work on this project with Save the Children because it demonstrates how good design can improve the quality of people’s lives, which has always been at the heart of Conran & Partners’ philosophy. It also shows that you don’t need to spend vast amounts of money to make a significant difference and the fact that Save the Children will be developing the concept highlights this perfectly.”
