JD Sports has announced Darren Shapland and Angela Luger will join the sportswear retailer as non-executives, taking up the positions from June 1.

Shapland was previously chief executive for Carpetright, as well as chief financial officer at retailers including Sainsbury’s, Superdrug and divisions of The Burton Group.

He has previously held a range of non-executive chair and audit chair positions at Poundland, Ferguson and Ladbrokes, and is also currently non-executive chair of Topps Tiles.

During Luger’s career, she has worked as chief executive at The Original Factory Shop and N Brown, as well as previously being managing director at Debenhams.

She has also held senior roles at businesses including Cadbury, Coca-Cola and Asda.

Luger was recently named non-executive director of Jet2 and will continue her role as non-executive on the board at New Look, Portmeirion Group and Scs Group.

Shapland will join the audit and risk committee at JD Sports, while Luger will join the remuneration committee upon her appointment.
