Go Outdoors has acquired fishing retailer Fishing Republic out of administration today, saving the jobs of over 100 employees across its 14 stores.

Fishing Republic, which is the second largest independent fishing tackle and equipment retailer in the UK, fell into administration today after filing its intention to appoint administrators last month.

The Yorkshire-based retailer’s stores will continue to trade as normal after being acquired by JD Sports subsidiary Go Outdoors for an undisclosed sum.

Fishing Republic will be added to JD Sports’ division of outdoors brands that includes Blacks, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors and Tiso.

Chief executive of the outdoor division at JD Sports Lee Bagnall said: “We’re delighted to have secured the business and are very excited about the acquisition.

“Our Go Outdoors fishing business is already significant and this gives Fishing Republic and some of our branded partners a huge opportunity for the future.”

Go Outdoors was bought by JD Sports in 2016 for £112m.
