The cost for UK families of sending a child to school soared to £1,077 for the past school year to June.

The total spend on sending children to school in the UK has now hit£10.5 billion.

The report cites soaring food prices as one of the biggest contributors to the rise. School meals accounts for£388 of the total spend, up 3.8 per cent on the year before.

Clothing including uniforms and PE kits was the largest spending category accounting for 43.9 per cent of the total cost.
