Work has resumed on the Multi Development Southgate scheme in Bath following a fire on the site this week.

Construction was stopped when a fire broke out on Tuesday.

The developers are still assessing the full extent of the damage.

A spokesperson from Multi Development UK said: “From 7.30am this morning the SouthGate site has been back in operation and fully operational excluding the isolated area where the incident occurred. This isolated area will resume production when all necessary investigations have been completed. It is hoped the timetable will not be substantially affected, however this cannot be confirmed until the results of the survey are fully known.”

The project began on the£360 million Southgate shopping centre a year ago.

The first phase of the Southgate centre was due to open next autumn, with the whole scheme due for completion by autumn 2010.
