Ski and outdoor sports retailer Snow+Rock is to open its first store outside England in the Republic of Ireland in October.

The 16-store chain’s 14,600 sq ft outlet will trade from two floors in Dublin’s Dundrum shopping centre. The store will sit alongside the main mall in a separate retail park with its own frontage.

The shop will display its trademark climbing and snow-sport-focused product range, as well as a Cyclesurgery bike store, following the retailer’s acquisition of the London chain in November last year.

Snow+Rock managing director Dion Taylor said: “For many years we have been asked when we would open in Ireland and this is the culmination of that objective. We want our customers to be excited by all the sports and leisure activities we offer.”

The store will also feature a Touch Lab – an in-store area from new New Zealand outdoor brand Icebreaker – that will take the shape of a cargo crate, fashioned from white extruded plastic. The space will carry graphics from Icebreaker’s catalogue.

Snow+Rock plans to double the seven-strong Cyclesurgery chain to 14 standalone stores, with the first set to open in Romford later this month. This will be followed by outlets in Wirral, Birmingham, Bristol, Didsbury in Manchester, Port Solent in Portsmouth and Chertsey in Surrey.

In the year to August 31, 2006, Snow+Rock generated sales of£35.8 million – a rise of 2.5 per cent on the previous year. Profits shot up 61.3 per cent, from£950,953 to£1.5 million.

Five of Snow+Rock’s English stores are in London.
