Positive sales as conversion completion in sight
Morrisons may be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the announcement of positive figures for the 25 weeks to July 24.

The retailer said like-for-like sales for the period increased by 2.6 per cent, excluding fuel. Sales at converted Safeway stores rose by 10.9 per cent, excluding fuel. Stores in Morrisons' core estate increased like-for-like sales by 1.1 per cent with fuel. However, excluding fuel sales, like-for-likes were down by 2.7 per cent.

The retailer said: 'We remain on track to complete the accelerated conversion process by late November, by which time 360 stores across the UK will be trading as Morrisons. This group of stores will comprise over 10 million sq ft [929,000 sq m] of selling space.'
