Ernest Jones leads UK sales
Signet has posted sales of US$814.3 million (£410.8 million) for the first quarter to May 5, up from US$734.3 million (£370.5 million) in the same period last year. This translates to a rise in like-for-like sales of 3.1 per cent for the group, compared with the same period last year.

In the UK, where the retailer trades as H Samuel, Ernest Jones and Leslie Davis, Signet experienced improved sales growth compared with the previous quarter, with Ernest Jones leading the pack.

The majority of Signet's business is in the US, accounting for 77.6 per cent of turnover. However, the retailer said that the US trading environment 'appears to have weakened'.

The earnings announcement for the first quarter is scheduled for June 8.
