Debenhams has recruited a new womenswear director, poaching Sara Bradley from BHS International where she was consultant brand director.

Bradley will join the department store chain on Monday and report into chief executive Sergio Bucher.

Prior to working as consultant brand director, Bradley held roles including womenswear trading director at BHS International.

Before that she worked in roles including M&S head of buying and Arcadia Group buying director.

Bradley said: “I’m really excited to be joining Debenhams because it’s a great British brand with a strong heritage and I believe this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the team at a time of change with the Debenhams redesigned strategy.”

Debenhams’ strategy under new leadership team Sergio Bucher and chairman Ian Cheshire is built around three newly-created business units: fashion and home, beauty and beauty services and food and events.

Debenhams suffered a fall in full-year profits but Bucher insisted he was pleased with the progress of his new strategy to reinvigorate the business.

The department store group reported a 44% slump in full-year pre-tax profit to £59m.

Food and beauty were Debenhams’ star categories over the year – sales were up 8% and 5% respectively while clothing was down 0.5%.
