Black Friday 2014 was the UK’s biggest shopping day on record as consumers splashed out £810m during the US-inspired retail bonanza.
Online spend on Black Friday was up 38% on 2013, said Barclaycard.
Online department store spend soared 144% compared with the previous year, while in-store spend jumped 44%. Online spending on clothing was 98% higher than in 2013 while in-store it increased 38%.
The research found that electronics was one of the few categories in which spending in-store grew more than it did online. Shoppers splashed out twice as much in-store as in 2013, compared with a 57% rise online.
Barclaycard started recording UK consumer spend in 2011.
