MSPs back Scottish Grocers' Federation push
The Scottish Grocers' Federation (SGF) recruited some unlikely seasonal staff, as MSPs rolled up their sleeves and got behind tills to serve in stores across Scotland.

More than 60 MSPs volunteered to take part in the SFG's Christmas Service Initiative, which put politicians behind the counter to give them an insight into the pressures facing retailers.

MSPs from all parties participated and were assigned to stores in their constituencies. As well as eliciting politicians' support, the initiative aimed to encourage people to shop locally this Christmas, according to the SGF.

Most MSPs' visits took place earlier this month, but some are planned for the new year.

SGF chief executive John Drummond said: 'We have been delighted by the response. MSPs have shown a willingness to engage and experience the issues affecting our sector first-hand.

'Through these visits, we have been able to highlight the need for compulsory proof of age cards, the problems surrounding licensing reform and the impact of unfair competition from the multiples. We will continue to build on the links we have made through this initiative.'
