Sainsbury's still losing ground to rivals, says TNS

Sainsbury's continues to lose market share to its rivals, according to the latest TNS data.

The grocer, now headed by Justin King, saw its market share drop by 1 percentage point to 15.5 per cent for the 12 weeks to April 25, compared with the previous year.

Meanwhile, Tesco and Asda continued to increase their share. Tesco now controls 27.5 per cent of the market, and Asda 16.6 per cent.

TNS Superpanel retail director Peter East said: 'While the grocery market is displaying signs of renewed vigour, with other major operators reporting strong growth, Sainsbury's performance does not reflect this wider industry pattern.'
