Scheme aims to tackle children's nutrition
Sainsbury's is launching in January a healthy eating and cookery scheme to target British school children called Active Kids Get Cooking.

Active Kids vouchers, which can be donated to any school participating in the scheme, can be redeemed from products in Sainsbury's stores.

The scheme is open to all UK schools and aims to provide resources for teachers, cookery products and kits to schools involved.

Brand manager for Active Kids Get Cooking Rob Crumbie said: 'We are pleased to be part of Active Kids Get Cooking by raising the level of skill and nutrition awareness in schools.

'We are confident that by 2009 there will be more than 10,000 primary and secondary schools around the UK participating in this scheme. We are proud to have the support of The Design and Technology Association (DATA) and the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF).'

The Active Kids Get Cooking launch follows the high-profile media campaign by Sainsbury's front man, Jamie Oliver, in which he tackled the unhealthy state of school dinners in the acclaimed Channel 4 TV series Jamie's School Dinners.

The supermarket is also launching an Active Kids Get Cooking challenge competition between schools, inviting children to send in creative and nutritious recipes for judging.
