Grocer rejoins after a month's suspended membership
Sainsbury's has rejoined the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The supermarket group revealed in March that it would suspend its membership of the organisation until the end of April, following an argument about whether its views were being taken account of.

Sainsbury's suspended its membership after Kevin Hawkins, director general of the trade organisation, backed rival Tesco's approach to food labelling in a television interview and failed to mention Sainsbury's Wheel of Health system.

Tesco is opposed to Food Standards Agency plans to introduce a 'traffic light' labelling system. However, Sainsbury's has backed the proposals and introduced a red, amber and green coding system to show fat and salt levels.
