A Sainsbury’s buyer has been arrested following claims he took up to £3 million in bribes from one of the supermarket’s suppliers.

The supplier in question, Greenvale, provides about half of the retailer’s potatoes. A Greenvale employee has also been arrested in connection with the allegations.

Sainsbury’s buyer John Maylem has been questioned by police.

A police spokesman said: “Two men were arrested on suspicion of corruption and money laundering and were subsequently bailed.”
