Sainsbury’s has appointed Matt Brittin from Google as a non-executive director.

Brittin, 42, is UK and Ireland managing director at Google, and he joins the Sainsbury’s board today.

David Tyler, Sainsbury’s chairman, said: “I am delighted that Matt has agreed to join Sainsbury’s Board. We were looking for someone who would complement the skills and experience of our existing team and I am sure he will contribute widely to our future growth aspirations.”

Brittin said: “I am very pleased to be joining the Board of Sainsbury’s. Its brand has strong consumer values and its sales are going from strength to strength both off-line and on-line.”
