Existing supply director will stay on as consultant
Sainsbury's has appointed former Matalan supply boss Roger Burnley as supply chain director. Burnley will replace Lawrence Christensen, although no official start date has been given.

Christensen, who was employed initially on a set term of 16 months, will stay on until December to ensure a smooth handover and then work with the retailer as a consultant part-time.

Christensen joined September last year from Safeway, following the acquisition by Morrisons. He replaced Martin White as Sainsbury's began its strategy to improve in-store availability.

Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King said: 'Lawrence has been an integral part of the team and has made a massive contribution to improving our supply chain and the service we provide our customers. I am delighted that he has agreed to stay on and support the business through the year. Roger's extensive retail and logistics experience and track record of delivering results will be a great addition to the management team.'
