Everyone has had problems with online deliveries at some point, and it seems etail chief executives are no exception.

Asos boss Nick Robertson spoke at the Metapack Delivery Conference last week on a panel about logistics with retailers including Sir Terry Leahy and Primark supply chain director Martin White. The etail entrepreneur said he had received a phone call about his own Asos delivery while he was in a meeting at work.

The driver had found his address and could see someone was in, but couldn’t work out how to get through the gate.

“He asked me if he could just throw the parcel over the wall,” Robertson said. Chucking deliveries over a wall might not sound like the best fulfilment method, but at least the courier called to ask.
