Electricals retailer Richer Sounds has bought the website of failed counterpart Empire Direct.

Richer Sounds chairman David Robinson said: “We are sure this will be an exciting new chapter for the company and look forward to expanding our commitment to value and customer service through our stores and online."

Empire Direct went into administration last month. It had a turnover of£140m and operated mainly online.

Richer Sounds said it would try to assist former Empire Direct customers, who will be entitled to special offers from the retailer.

Richer Sounds specialises in hi-fi, home cinema and TVs and has 48 stores.
