Leading retail analyst Richard Ratner has died after suffering a heart attack last week.

The vice-president of Seymour Pierce, fondly known at Ratty, was arguably the best-known retail analyst in the City and widely respected throughout the industry.

Seymour Pierce said in a statement: “Ratty was a highly respected member of the financial community, known famously for his acerbic comment and penetrating analysis, delivered in his unique, personal humorous and amiable style. The City has lost one of the good guys, who will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.”

He leaves behind his wife Jane and three children.
