Mobile phone business enjoys 'strong momentum'
Carphone Warehouse unveiled total group revenues up 42.1 per cent in its first quarter.

For the 13 weeks to July 1, revenues at the retail division climbed 29.7 per cent to£394.3 million and rose by 10.8 per cent on a like-for like basis. Retail gross profit advanced 30.5 per cent, or 6.8 per cent on a like-for-like basis.

Chief executive Charles Dunstone said: 'All our businesses are enjoying strong momentum.'

The mobile phone retailer revealed it had received 476,000 applications for its Talk Talk 'free' broadband service, as of July 26. Dunstone said: 'On the customer service side, there is no doubt that we initially underestimated the strength of demand. We have expanded our customer service capacity substantially since June to meet this additional demand. We still have someway to go, however, to reach the leading service levels we target.'
